That was my story today…………..
I was up in my mountain stand @ 5:30am and stayed in it until 5:30pm…….
WHY???
Because the RUT is working and the conditions could not have been any better..Cold&Quiet!!!!!!
Not only that- but when I lay my head down tonight(which will be soon) I have no “Deer Regret”…I gave myself the best chance to see a Big Buck on his feet…….
All in All – it was a good day… I saw 10 deer, 7 of which had headgear-just not the headgear I was searching for…….
Back @ it tomorrow morning….

A SPECIAL STAND….

Heading up on the Mountain this morning……
I have several stands that I use on the property I hunt but my SPECIAL STAND is one I have not hunted since last November.
It’s a 30 minute hike up the mountain…I like to save this stand for mid-November when the RUT is usually heated up!!!
Headed out shortly in search of the BIG illusive STAR CITY WHITETAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If anything magical happens I will have the video camera with me…so you will not miss it….Season 4...

Get out there and shoot that MUZZLELOADER………Because next Saturday you will be using it…
Just because it was on target when you put it away last season doesn’t necessarily mean that it is on this year……
Always practice with your FIREARMS before heading into the field…….
Confidence is a big part of this game……
Remember…with a MUZZLELOADER -always fire a cap(primer) through your unloaded weapon before you take your 1st shot of the year…that will help clean out any deposits,residue etc that may exist in the firing mechanism since the last cleaning…

Speaking from having many episodes of “DEER DEPRESSION” over the years- its always better to just get up and go unless the elements just don’t permit it..
DEER DEPRESSION-[deer] dih-presh-uhn- the feeling that sets in on a hunter once he/she wakes up after blowing the morning hunt off because the bed was to comfortable only to wish they should have gone…
I woke up around 5:30 this morning and looked outside and noticed the wind was still howling. That was all I needed to crawl back in bed. About 30 minutes later I started thinking about the power that “deer depression” can have on me, so I got up, got ready and headed out….
Sure glad I did- not only did the wind settle down shortly after daybreak, but not long after that a nice Fall Turkey came along which I obliged with a muzzy and 10 minutes behind the turkey came a nice Fall Deer which I obliged the same way…
Moral of the story…go ahead and get up and go…you almost always will be glad you did..
**SIDE NOTE**- the Forum and a new, better looking photo gallery should be in play by tomorrow******

Well- thus far I have made about a half dozen trips to the hunting woods and have not harvested anything. Tomorrow morning I will get back after em- after all hunting success has a lot to do with being at the right place at the right time but, the key factor to hunting success is just being there and giving yourself the chance…..

As I sit here watching the baseball playoffs(Yankees/Orioles) the anticipation of what I will encounter next week continues to build. After work is done tomorrow I will be looking at 5 straight days of bow hunting in my favorite Roanoke County spot. Even after 30 plus years of deer hunting the excitement has never faded…if anything it has only grown with time. I will be diligently trying to gather footage for Season 4 of Star City Whitetails in order to share it with you. So far the fall weather has been accommodating and I hope the cool mornings/evenings will hang around throughout next week. I appreciate the visits thus far that the site has received and I am continuing to add to this site as I get suggestions from you folks. Make sure that you send your pics/vids to us so that we can upload your special times in the outdoors..
